Bajaj Chetak Dominates EV Scooter Sales in August 2026 with 273% Growth, Overtakes TVS iQube and Ather

The Indian electric two-wheeler market delivered a strong performance in August 2026. Total sales across listed models reached 1,87,214 units, marking a 146 percent year-on-year increase from 76,118 units in August 2025. The growth was driven by multiple models, but one name stood out clearly. Bajaj Chetak emerged as the highest-selling electric scooter model for the month, overtaking established rivals TVS iQube and Ather Rizta by a significant margin.

Bajaj Chetak Takes Top Spot with Record Growth

Bajaj Chetak recorded 52,248 units in August 2026, up from 14,014 units a year earlier. This translates to a 273 percent year-on-year growth, the highest among all models with a comparable base. The absolute increase of 38,234 units was also the largest in the segment. Chetak alone accounted for 27.9 percent of the total listed volume and finished 9,366 units ahead of the second-placed TVS iQube.

According to industry sources, the sharp rise comes after a constrained August 2025 when production at Bajaj's Chakan facility was temporarily affected by a global shortage of rare earth magnets sourced from China. With supply chains stabilised, the model has ramped up deliveries across its variant lineup.

TVS iQube Holds Second Position, Orbiter Adds Volume

TVS iQube secured the second spot with 42,882 units, growing 76 percent from 24,434 units in August 2025. The recently introduced TVS Orbiter added 14,641 units in its first full month of tracking, placing fifth overall. Together, the iQube and Orbiter pushed TVS Motor Company's combined model tally to 57,523 units, making TVS the leading manufacturer by volume in this dataset.

Hero Vida and Ather Rizta Complete Top Four

Hero Vida more than doubled its volume to 25,558 units, registering 108 percent growth over 12,273 units a year ago. The Vida range, which includes the V2 and VX2 variants, benefited from a broader lineup and battery subscription options that lower upfront costs.

Ather Rizta followed in fourth place with 22,586 units, up 30 percent from 17,344 units. Ather's total listed volume across Rizta, 450 series, and the new Konarc reached 29,694 units, with Rizta contributing roughly 76 percent of that total. The Konarc, a new family-oriented model, recorded 217 units in its debut month.

Other Notable Performers

Ampere Magnus grew 98 percent to 9,772 units. River Indie surged 195 percent to 6,567 units. Ampere Reo posted 272 percent growth to 1,911 units, narrowly ahead of Honda QC1 at 1,902 units. Greaves Electric Mobility's three models — Magnus, Reo, and Nexus — combined for 12,439 units.

New entrants in the list include Suzuki e-Access (668 units), Yamaha EC06 (475 units), and Honda Activa E (140 units, up 600 percent from a base of 20 units). Bajaj Yulu, tracked separately by one source, jumped from 150 to 1,500 units, a 900 percent increase.

Electric Scooters Drive Growth in Overall Scooter Market

The impact of electric models is visible in the broader scooter rankings. In the top 10 scooters list that includes petrol models, Honda Activa led with 2,55,815 units, followed by TVS Jupiter at 1,47,450 units. Bajaj Chetak ranked fourth overall, the highest-placed electric model, while TVS iQube, Hero Vida, and Ather Rizta occupied the fifth, eighth, and tenth positions respectively.

The four electric entries together contributed 1,43,274 units, up 110.5 percent from a year ago. They accounted for 20.1 percent of the top 10 scooter volume, up from 11.5 percent in August 2025, and delivered approximately 61.7 percent of the list's incremental sales.

Manufacturer Standings

TVS led the manufacturer tally with 57,523 units across iQube and Orbiter. Bajaj followed with 52,248 units from Chetak alone. Hero's Vida added 25,558 units. Ather's combined models reached 29,694 units. Greaves Electric Mobility totalled 12,439 units across three models.

The data covers listed models and does not represent the complete electric two-wheeler market. Brands such as Ola Electric, Simple Energy, and BGauss are not included in this particular dataset but participate in the wider market.

The August 2026 numbers confirm that electric scooters are no longer niche players. They are now significant volume contributors in the mainstream scooter segment, with Bajaj Chetak setting the pace for model-level growth.
