China’s electric vehicle industry is no longer focused only on domestic growth. Instead, brands are rapidly expanding into Europe, the UK, Australia, and other international markets with vehicles designed specifically for global customers.
One of the latest examples is the XPeng L03, a brand-new AI-powered electric SUV Coupé unveiled during XPeng’s global launch event in Munich, Germany. Unlike previous launches that started in China, the L03 was introduced as a global model and is planned for sale in more than 60 markets, with UK deliveries expected to begin in 2027.
A Fresh Design Inspired by Performance Cars
The XPeng L03 breaks away from the traditional SUV look.
Instead, it adopts a sleek SUV Coupé silhouette that blends sporty styling with everyday practicality.
Designed under the leadership of former Ferrari exterior design chief JuanMa Lopez, the L03 follows XPeng’s “Vital Flow” design philosophy. It features a wide stance, frameless doors, flush door handles, a fastback roofline, and an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.228, helping improve efficiency and driving range.
Premium Interior with a Minimalist Feel
Inside, the L03 follows the clean, technology-focused cabin design that has become popular among modern EVs.
Key highlights include:
- Large 15.6-inch central touchscreen
- Digital cockpit with head-up display
- Lounge-inspired seating
- Multi-colour ambient lighting
- Intelligent climate control
- Up to 37 storage compartments
- Spacious luggage area
- Towing capacity of up to 1,500 kg (market dependent)
XPeng has designed the cabin to appeal to both families and technology enthusiasts, focusing on comfort without overwhelming drivers with physical buttons.
Performance and Powertrain Options
Unlike many competitors that offer only a battery-electric version, XPeng plans to sell the L03 with two electrified powertrain choices in several markets:
Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV)
The fully electric version is expected to use a 400V electrical architecture with battery options around 58 kWh and 71 kWh, delivering an estimated range of 270–320 miles (approximately 435–515 km) depending on the battery and market certification. Official WLTP figures are still pending.
Range-Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV)
XPeng will also introduce an L03 PowerX variant using the company’s Kunpeng range-extender technology, designed for regions where charging infrastructure is still developing. This model combines an electric drivetrain with a small engine that generates electricity to extend driving range.
Who Are the Main Rivals?
Once it reaches international markets, the XPeng L03 will compete in one of the fastest-growing EV segments.
Its main competitors include:
- Tesla Model Y
- Polestar 4
- Hyundai Ioniq 5
- Kia EV6
- Volkswagen ID.5
- Smart #5
- BYD Sealion 7
XPeng believes its combination of AI features, design, and pricing can help it stand out, though analysts note that Tesla still holds advantages in software maturity and charging infrastructure.
EVMovz Analysis: A Serious Challenger, but Not Yet a Tesla Killer
XPeng has made remarkable progress over the last few years. The L03 combines attractive styling, an advanced digital cabin, and AI-focused software into a package that appears highly competitive on paper.
However, global success depends on more than vehicle specifications.
In mature EV markets such as the UK, buyers also consider charging infrastructure, software reliability, service support, resale value, and brand trust. Tesla continues to lead in many of these areas, while XPeng is still building its international footprint.
That said, if XPeng delivers competitive pricing, reliable after-sales support, and regular software updates, the L03 could become one of the strongest new entrants in the mid-size electric SUV segment.
