India's electric scooter market slowed in August 2026. The top 10 brands recorded combined sales of 1,75,715 units according to Vahan registration data. This represents an 11.06 percent decline from July 2026 when 1,97,569 units were sold. Eight of the ten brands posted lower numbers compared to the previous month. Despite the broad decline, the ranking order remained unchanged from July.
TVS iQube holds the top spot
TVS iQube remained the best-selling electric scooter brand with 48,262 units in August. Sales fell 12.37 percent from 55,073 units in July. The iQube range continues to drive volume, supported by the Orbiter and the premium TVS X. Even with the drop, TVS led second-placed Bajaj by nearly 8,700 units.
Bajaj Chetak stays second
Bajaj Auto secured second place with 39,584 units, down 10.70 percent from 44,328 units in July. The Chetak lineup spans the C2501, C3001, C3501, C3502, and C3503 variants, covering multiple price points and battery options. TVS and Bajaj together account for more sales than all other eight brands combined.
Ather retains third position
Ather Energy sold 27,602 units in August, a 6.61 percent decline from 29,555 units in July. This was the smallest drop among the top three brands. The family-focused Rizta contributes over 70 percent of Ather's sales alongside the 450X, 450S, and 450 Apex models. The newly launched Konarc, aimed at the affordable segment, could boost numbers in coming months.
Hero Vida posts strongest growth
Hero Vida was the only leading brand to record month-on-month growth. Sales rose 9.06 percent to 18,529 units from 16,989 in July. The VX2 Go and VX2 Plus models, offered with battery subscription options that lower upfront cost, appear to be attracting budget-conscious buyers.
Ola Electric decline contained
Ola Electric held fifth place with 13,706 units, down just 1.70 percent from 13,943 in July. The decline was relatively small compared to brands further down the list. Ola launched the affordable S1 Z to compete with Ather Konarc and the upcoming Simple Wave, but deliveries have been pushed to 2027.
Greaves, River, and BGauss see sharp drops
Greaves Electric Mobility recorded the steepest percentage decline at 14.58 percent, selling 8,130 units. River Mobility fell 14.21 percent to 5,013 units. BGauss dropped 13.65 percent to 4,227 units. All three brands continue to show strong year-on-year growth despite the monthly dip.
Honda records marginal growth
Honda finished tenth with 864 units but posted a surprise 0.47 percent increase from 860 units in July. Earlier reports had suggested production was halted, but the data indicates a quiet comeback. Honda still has significant ground to cover against TVS and Bajaj.
Simple Energy holds steady
Simple Energy sold 1,504 units, down only 2.53 percent from 1,543 in July. The Simple One, One S, and Ultra models are gaining recognition. The upcoming Simple Wave family scooter, priced at Rs 1,09,999, will compete with Ather Konarc and Bajaj Chetak C2501 in the affordable segment.
Market outlook
The August slowdown appears seasonal ahead of the festive season. TVS, Bajaj, and Ather maintain a tight grip on the top three positions. Hero Vida's growth and Ola's contained decline suggest the battle for fourth and fifth place will intensify. New launches like Ather Konarc and Simple Wave could reshape the affordable family scooter segment in the months ahead.
