In a major step toward promoting green mobility, Prayagraj city will soon have 25 new public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations set up under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The initiative aims to make EV charging more accessible and encourage more citizens to switch to electric vehicles.
Boosting Uttar Pradesh’s EV Ecosystem
The project is part of the Uttar Pradesh government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen EV infrastructure across key cities. Under the PPP model, the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) will provide land and electricity connections, while private companies will invest in and operate the charging stations.
Officials said the move aligns with the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Policy 2022, which targets the establishment of hundreds of charging points across major urban centers to support the growing number of EV users.
How the PPP Model Works
In this model, the government and private firms share responsibilities:
Government’s role: Providing suitable land parcels, electricity supply, and regulatory clearances.
Private sector’s role: Setting up and managing the charging stations, handling operations, and ensuring maintenance and uptime.
This collaboration aims to reduce the financial burden on the government while bringing in private expertise and faster deployment.
Prayagraj’s new EV charging network is expected to:
Improve convenience for EV owners and commercial fleets.
Encourage more citizens to adopt electric vehicles.
Reduce dependency on fossil fuels and help cut carbon emissions.
Generate local employment opportunities in infrastructure maintenance and service operations.
Future Expansion Plans
The Prayagraj project is part of a larger statewide EV plan that envisions over 300 charging stations across Uttar Pradesh in the coming years. Once operational, the new network will significantly enhance the city’s readiness for the EV revolution.
The addition of 25 new public EV charging stations marks an important milestone in Prayagraj’s clean mobility journey. By leveraging the PPP model, the initiative promises sustainable urban development, improved air quality, and a step closer to a greener future.
