The electric car market in China has a new star – the all-new MG4 EV. Built by SAIC under the MG brand, this updated version has officially entered the market with a design makeover, more features, and one big highlight – the world’s first semi-solid-state battery in a mass-produced EV.
Even before deliveries began, the MG4 EV created a buzz. Within 24 hours of opening bookings, the company received more than 11,000 reservations, which later crossed 20,000 units. Due to this strong demand, MG moved its launch date earlier than planned, starting deliveries from August 29, 2025.
Pricing and Variants
One of the biggest attractions of the MG4 EV is its affordable price tag. The car is available in multiple trims with prices ranging between 68,800 yuan (around ₹8 lakh / $9,600) and 102,800 yuan (around ₹12 lakh / $14,300). For a limited period, MG is also offering promotional discounts that reduce prices further, making it one of the most budget-friendly EVs in its segment.
The new MG4 EV is larger than the outgoing version, offering more comfort and space for passengers:
Length: 4,395 mm
Width: 1,842 mm
Height: 1,551 mm
Wheelbase: 2,750 mm
The exterior takes inspiration from MG’s sporty Cyberster model, with an illuminated MG badge, sharp LED headlights, honeycomb grille, and arrow-style tail lamps. The fresh styling gives it a modern and premium look at a very reasonable price.
The MG4 EV runs on a 120 kW electric motor producing 250 Nm of torque. It can hit a top speed of around 160 km/h, which is more than enough for city and highway drives.
Buyers get to choose from two LFP battery packs:
42.8 kWh with a range of about 437 km (CLTC)
53.9 kWh with a range of about 530 km (CLTC)
Fast charging allows the battery to go from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes, making it practical for daily use.
The biggest talking point is the launch of the Anxin Edition with a semi-solid-state battery. Developed with Suzhou Qingtao Power Technology, this battery uses less liquid electrolyte, improving safety, life span, and cold-weather performance.
Capacity: ~70 kWh
Range: ~537 km (CLTC)
Energy density: ~180 Wh/kg
This makes the MG4 EV the first EV in the world with such advanced battery technology available to regular buyers.
Inside, the MG4 EV offers a 15.6-inch floating display with 2.5K resolution, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155. The infotainment system is built in collaboration with Oppo, which means it supports phone mirroring, AI voice commands, gesture controls, and seamless use of apps without needing extra downloads.
Other practical highlights include 471 litres of boot space plus an extra 98 litres under the floor, making it a family-friendly EV.
The MG4 EV is more than just an upgrade – it’s a clear message that electric cars can be affordable, stylish, and innovative all at once. For buyers looking for a budget-friendly EV with future-ready technology, this model sets a new benchmark.
