India’s EV ecosystem is rapidly evolving, and a major infrastructure milestone has just been added. Rocklink India Pvt. Ltd. has launched its first integrated lithium-ion battery and rare earth magnet recycling facility in Sikandrabad, Uttar Pradesh.
This move is expected to significantly strengthen India’s EV supply chain, circular economy, and critical material independence.
What Makes This Facility Important?
The newly established plant is designed to handle critical materials recycling at scale, which is essential as India rapidly moves toward electric vehicles and renewable energy.
Key Capacities:
- Lithium-ion battery recycling: 10,000 tonnes per year
- Rare earth magnet processing: 60 tonnes per month
- Upcoming rare earth chloride production: 1,500 tonnes annually (by Q1 2026)
This positions Rocklink India as a key player in reducing dependency on imported raw materials like lithium and rare earth elements.
Advanced Technology Driving Efficiency
The facility uses Rocklink’s self-developed R2 recycling technology, which can process 95+ types of battery scrap, including multiple chemistries and formats.
Key Benefits:
- Over 98% metal recovery efficiency (aluminium, copper, iron)
- Production of high-purity black mass for further refining
- Safe removal of hazardous gases using advanced treatment systems
This makes the plant both environmentally safe and commercially viable.
Circular Economy & EV Growth in India
According to Leonard Alexander Ansorge, the project is a crucial step toward building a circular ecosystem for critical raw materials.
With EV adoption rising, recycling facilities like this will:
- Reduce battery waste pollution
- Ensure resource efficiency
- Strengthen India’s domestic EV supply chain
Rare Earth Magnet Recycling Comes to India
The plant also focuses on recycling high-value magnets like:
- NdFeB (used in EV motors)
- SmCo
- AlNiCo
These materials are critical for electric motors, wind turbines, and industrial machinery, making this facility strategically important.
Magcycle™ Reverse Logistics Expansion
Rocklink is also bringing its Magcycle™ system (already used in Europe) to India.
This model helps:
- Collect and sort magnet scrap efficiently
- Improve traceability
- Build a structured recycling network
Rocklink India’s new facility is more than just a recycling plant—it’s a strategic infrastructure move that supports India’s clean energy transition.
As EV adoption accelerates, such initiatives will play a crucial role in ensuring that growth is sustainable, cost-efficient, and environmentally responsible.
