Maruti Suzuki is finally stepping into the electric SUV arena with its first global electric offering, the e-Vitara. Far from being a noisy, dramatic debut, this electric SUV is being heralded as a “well-mannered, thoughtfully executed” vehicle, suggesting a focus on practicality, reliability, and ease of ownership—the hallmarks of the Maruti brand.
The e-Vitara is designed to cater to both city commuters and those with occasional long-distance needs by offering a choice of battery packs:
Standard Pack (49 kWh): This option is expected to provide a practical range, likely offering a WLTP-certified range of around 344 km. This makes it an ideal choice for daily city commutes and weekend errands.
Long-Range Pack (61 kWh): The larger pack is the one that truly impresses. It boasts a WLTP-certified range of approximately 428 km, which is expected to translate to a real-world driving range of around 350-400 km in Indian conditions and a claimed ARAI range of over 500 km. This significant range positions the e-Vitara as a strong contender for intercity travel.
Front-Wheel Drive (FWD): Estimated to produce around 174 PS of power.
All-Wheel Drive (AWD – Global Spec): While the initial India launch is expected to be FWD-only, the global model features a dual-motor AWD setup with a higher torque output (around 300 Nm), adding a layer of capability.
The e-Vitara also supports DC fast charging up to 150 kW, allowing a quick top-up from 10% to 80% in an estimated 45 minutes, dramatically cutting down wait times on long journeys.
One of the most talked-about aspects of the e-Vitara is its significant leap in safety technology, particularly for a Maruti Suzuki vehicle.
ADAS Level 2: The e-Vitara is expected to be the brand’s first model in India to feature a complete Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite. This includes essential features like:
Adaptive Cruise Control
Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB)
Lane Keep Assist
Blind Spot Monitoring
Rear Cross Traffic Alert
Passive Safety: The SUV comes standard with up to seven airbags (six are standard across variants, with a knee airbag on higher trims). Other safety features include a 360-degree camera, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and an electronic parking brake with an auto-hold function.
The cabin of the e-Vitara marks a dramatic shift towards modern, premium design:
Dual Digital Display: The highlight is a sleek, unified housing for the dual digital screens: a large 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen and a fully digital driver’s display.
Premium Comfort: The car is packed with features designed for comfort and convenience, which include:
Ventilated front seats (a boon for hot climates).
A panoramic glass roof (on top trims) for an airy feel.
A 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.
Sliding and reclining rear seats, a thoughtful addition for maximizing passenger comfort or boot space.
A two-spoke multi-function steering wheel and ambient lighting.
The e-Vitara is set to launch around December 2025 and is expected to be priced competitively, starting in the estimated range of ₹18 Lakh to ₹25 Lakh (ex-showroom). It is a carefully calculated move by Maruti Suzuki that could very well accelerate the mass adoption of electric SUVs in the market. It is the reliable, well-mannered EV that millions of existing Maruti customers have been waiting for.
