Kawasaki has officially unveiled the 2027 Ninja 650 in the United Kingdom, marking the first significant update for the middleweight sportbike since 2023. The new model brings meaningful mechanical upgrades focused on the front end, along with revised technology features and fresh colour schemes. While the bike is already confirmed for European markets, Indian buyers are waiting for official word on local availability.
The 2026 Ninja 650 currently retails in India at Rs 7.91 lakh ex-showroom. In the UK, the 2027 version carries an identical price tag of £7,499, which converts to roughly Rs 8.16 lakh. If Kawasaki India follows a similar pricing strategy, the updated model could arrive without a substantial price increase.
Major mechanical upgrades on the front end
The most important changes for 2027 are concentrated at the front of the motorcycle. The conventional 41mm telescopic fork has been replaced by a 37mm Showa SFF-BP inverted fork. This separate function big piston design uses a larger piston to reduce damping pressure while delivering more control and stability during corner entry and braking. The rear suspension has also been updated with a revised spring rate to match the new front fork characteristics.
Braking hardware receives a significant upgrade. The outgoing axially-mounted two-piston calipers make way for radially-mounted four-piston units. Radial mounting aligns the caliper mounting face with the piston centerline, which increases rigidity, reduces taper wear, and provides sharper initial bite with better lever feedback. A redesigned wider front fender now covers more of the fork outer tubes.
These chassis and braking changes work together to improve road-holding performance and give the rider greater control during spirited riding, while maintaining the light and natural handling character that defines the Ninja 650.
Updated cockpit and connectivity
The instrument cluster gets a new 4.3-inch TFT colour display with a revised layout for better visibility. Smartphone connectivity through the Kawasaki Rideology app now supports turn-by-turn navigation and voice command functions, accessible through a paired headset and the dashboard. The seat height has been lowered to 785mm, enhancing accessibility for a wider range of riders.
Other retained features include Kawasaki Traction Control with two rider-selectable modes and an accessory quick shifter for clutchless upshifts. The trellis frame and overall ergonomics remain focused on everyday usability.
Colour options for 2027
Colour availability varies slightly by market. The UK and European range includes three schemes: Lime Green, Metallic Matte Graphenesteel Gray with Metallic Spark Black, and the new Metallic Flat Spark Black with Metallic Carbon Gray. Some dealers list only two options, typically Lime Green and a grey or matte grey variant.
Powertrain remains unchanged
The 649cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine carries over without modifications. It produces 68hp and 64Nm of torque, paired to a six-speed gearbox. This engine also powers the Versys 650, Z650 S, and Z650RS in their current forms. The US Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board have certified a new model code EX650VV for this engine family, confirming the updated Ninja 650 as a distinct 2027 model year version.
India launch timeline expectations
As of now, Kawasaki India has not announced a launch date for the 2027 Ninja 650. The previous model was updated for 2023 with traction control, and the current 2026 version continues on sale. Given the typical lag between global and Indian launches for this segment, the updated bike could arrive in late 2027 or early 2028. However, Kawasaki has occasionally accelerated timelines for volume models, so an earlier debut cannot be ruled out.
Potential buyers should watch for official communication from Kawasaki India, usually timed around major auto events or the festive season. The pricing expectation, based on UK parity, suggests a figure close to the current Rs 7.91 lakh ex-showroom, possibly with a modest increment to account for the hardware upgrades.
The 2027 Kawasaki Ninja 650 strengthens its position as an approachable middleweight sportbike with meaningful hardware improvements that enhance both safety and riding enjoyment. The switch to USD forks and radial brakes addresses long-standing requests from enthusiasts, while the updated TFT display and connectivity bring the cockpit up to modern standards. For Indian riders, the wait continues, but the package on offer makes a compelling case for whenever it arrives locally.
