Tesla Struggles in India With Only 600 Orders Since Launch

New Delhi: Tesla’s much-anticipated entry into India has seen a slow start, with the company securing just over 600 orders since opening sales in mid-July. The figure is far below expectations, raising questions about the EV maker’s growth in one of the world’s largest auto markets.

According to reports, Tesla plans to ship between 350 and 500 cars to India this year, with the first batch expected to arrive from its Shanghai plant in early September. For comparison, the company delivers nearly the same number of vehicles globally in just a few hours.

The lukewarm response highlights the challenges Tesla faces in India, where high import duties, limited charging infrastructure, and growing competition from local automakers could impact its long-term plans.
