JSW Greentech Partners Siemens for AMPSTAR Electric Buses & Trucks

JSW Greentech Limited, the commercial electric vehicle arm of the JSW Group, has partnered with Siemens to build a digital foundation for its AMPSTAR brand of electric buses and trucks. The collaboration was announced on November 3, 2026, and will support the company's research and development center in Pune and its greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.

The partnership centers on Siemens Xcelerator software, specifically Teamcenter for product lifecycle management and Mendix for supplier and business process collaboration. These tools will create a connected digital thread across product development, improving visibility and traceability throughout the organization and supply chain.

Digital Transformation Strategy

JSW Greentech is undertaking a comprehensive digital transformation program designed to connect engineering, product development, and manufacturing processes through a unified product lifecycle management strategy. The company aims to improve collaboration across teams, enhance engineering quality, reduce development cycle times, and accelerate the delivery of new electric vehicles to the Indian market.

Teamcenter will serve as the digital thread backbone, connecting sources of product and engineering information, supporting bills of materials and product structures, and delivering capabilities for requirements management, program planning, change management, and collaboration across mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines. Integration with the company's ERP system will help synchronize engineering and business data across the organization.

A Mendix-based supplier portal will extend digital processes beyond internal teams and across the broader product development and supplier ecosystem. This approach allows JSW Greentech to establish digital transformation as a core business capability from the outset.

Manufacturing Facility and Capacity

The company is developing a greenfield manufacturing facility across approximately 90 acres at AURIC in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. According to published plans, the facility targets annual manufacturing capacity of 10,000 electric buses and 5,000 electric trucks. The plant will house India's first pre-treatment and electro-deposition process for bus manufacturing, along with an automated truck-cabin line and an integrated battery ecosystem.

The Pune engineering center supports in-house technology development, prototype testing, connected-vehicle systems, and software development. JSW Greentech has developed the base logic, software, and algorithms for the entire electric drivetrain in-house, allowing it to tailor vehicles to specific customer requirements.

AMPSTAR Brand and Product Range

Launched on September 22, 2026, the AMPSTAR brand represents JSW Group's entry into commercial mobility. The brand offers a full-stack commercial mobility solution spanning electric buses and trucks, charging infrastructure, operating solutions, financing options, and after-sales support. Customers can choose from power configurations ranging from 150 kW to 500 kW and multiple ownership models including outright purchase, leasing, and Battery as a Service.

On the bus side, the portfolio will span 7-meter to 18-meter buses serving diverse applications including staff transportation, city, intercity, and school mobility. On the truck side, the company is starting with the 55-tonne tractor-trailer with plans to expand into tippers and fixed-body dumpers.

The vehicles feature a double cooling battery system and high-strength monocoque chassis specifically built for India's climate and road conditions. This engineering approach combines internal development with selected international partnerships and localization.

Leadership Perspective

Sumit Mittal, CEO of JSW Greentech Limited, emphasized that the future of commercial electric mobility will be shaped by how effectively technology integrates across the value chain. He stated that building a digitally connected enterprise from the outset creates a foundation for smarter, more efficient, and scalable electric vehicle manufacturing under the AMPSTAR brand.

Mathew Thomas, vice president and managing director for India at Siemens Digital Industries Software, noted that commercial EV manufacturers have a unique opportunity to establish digital transformation as a core business capability from the outset. He described the connected engineering and lifecycle management as a foundation for expanding vehicle development efficiently.

The announcement establishes the software selected for the program but does not disclose contract value, implementation completion date, or quantified reductions in development time. For fleet operators, this represents a step in AMPSTAR's vehicle development program rather than an announcement of truck orders or fleet deployment.

JSW Greentech was incorporated in 2024 and draws on the JSW Group's record of industrial execution at scale. The US$23 billion conglomerate has leading businesses across steel, energy, infrastructure, cement, paints, defence, automobiles, venture capital, realty, and sports.

The AMPSTAR vehicles are engineered for Indian operating conditions with a focus on making the transition to electric simpler, more reliable, and more rewarding for customers. The company's approach combines in-house engineering with global technology partnerships and localization to accelerate India's move to clean commercial transport.
