MINI Cooper SE Gen 2 India Launch Confirmed for November 2026

MINI has officially confirmed that the second-generation Cooper SE all-electric hatchback will launch in India on November 27, 2026. The British brand, owned by BMW Group, will bring the new model as a completely built-up unit, marking its return to the Indian market after the first-generation model was discontinued in December 2025.

The new Cooper SE arrives with significant upgrades over its predecessor. The most notable change is the larger 54.2 kWh battery pack, which replaces the earlier 32.6 kWh unit. This enables a claimed WLTP range of 402 kilometres, a substantial improvement over the previous model's 270 kilometres. Power comes from a front-mounted electric motor producing 215 bhp and 330 Nm of torque, driving the front wheels. MINI claims a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 6.2 seconds, though some global specifications quote 6.7 seconds.

Charging capability has also been enhanced. The Cooper SE supports DC fast charging at up to 95 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes. This is faster than the previous generation's 50 kW charging that took 36 minutes for the same charge window.

Design and exterior changes

The new Cooper SE retains MINI's signature three-door hatchback proportions but receives several design updates. The front features an octagonal enclosed grille with round LED headlamps that offer selectable light signatures. At the rear, flush-fitted tail lamps give a cleaner appearance. Typical of an electric vehicle, there are no exhaust pipes or conventional grille openings. The Cooper SE is expected to be offered in fresh exterior colours unique to the electric variant.

Interior and features

Inside, the cabin is headlined by a circular OLED display positioned at the centre of the dashboard, running MINI's Operating System 9. The dashboard features a textile finish, adding a distinct tactile element. Key features include a voice assistant, a parking assistant supported by 12 ultrasonic sensors and four cameras, and a smartphone-based digital key. Other expected equipment includes a heads-up display, powered front seats, all-LED lighting, wireless phone charging, automatic climate control, a Harman Kardon surround sound system, and a panoramic glass roof.

Paul Smith Edition

Alongside the standard Cooper SE, MINI will introduce the Paul Smith limited edition in India. This special version carries design inputs from the British fashion designer. Globally, it is offered in Midnight Black and Statement Grey exterior colours with unique stripes, 18-inch Night Flash Spoke Black alloy wheels, and Paul Smith badging. The interior gets Nightshade Blue seats with black knitted surfaces featuring tone-on-tone stripes, a 'Hello' light projection when doors open, Paul Smith's signature stripes on the steering wheel, and a floor mat with the designer's hand-drawn rabbit motif. The Paul Smith Edition retains the standard model's mechanical specifications.

Expected pricing and market position

Industry sources estimate the new Cooper SE will carry an ex-showroom price between ₹52 lakh and ₹58 lakh. The previous generation was last priced at ₹53.50 lakh for the standard variant and ₹55 lakh for the Charged Edition. As a CBU import, the Cooper SE will occupy a unique position in the Indian market with no direct competitors, targeting buyers who want a premium, fun-to-drive electric hatchback with distinctive styling and heritage.

The launch comes nearly a year after MINI ended sales of the first-generation Cooper SE in India. That model was introduced in February 2022 and saw a limited-run Charged Edition in August 2023. The new generation represents a comprehensive upgrade in range, performance, technology, and design.
